Cool Petaluma, in partnership with the City of Petaluma, Petaluma City Schools, and Café Puente, welcome you all to our 5th annual community climate action festival!

We are back again, taking over the entire Petaluma Community Center at Lucchesi Park for a family-friendly afternoon of climate action through community building.

Future Fest includes:

SABOR Food Truck by Sonoma Family Meal - Fresh and locally sourced ingredients in our globally inspired menu featuring Haitian, Thai, & Middle Eastern sandwiches, bowls, and snacks.

Grand Central Café Coffee - Coffee grown sustainably and with regenerative farm practices from small producers.

Fruteria Diosa: Cultivando Cultura - Latina owned juice bar centered on promoting wellness and community.

5th Annual Local Resource EXPO!

Experts from a wide range of backgrounds will be there to provide information, answer questions, and inspire action in all of our five topic areas.

City of Petaluma - Stop by our booth to talk with us about how Petaluma prepares for emergencies! We will be offering disaster preparedness information and a Petaluma specific questionnaire on neighborhood disaster response. SUPER DUPER COOL SPONSOR!

Emergency Prep Help - Prepares seniors for natural disasters and other emergencies by delivering free workshop series and distributing free supply-filled emergency go-bags.

Fire Safe Sonoma - Fire Safe Sonoma helps to educate residents about wildland fire prevention and preparedness with the intention that people will take action to protect themselves, their properties and their communities. With this, the goal is to reduce the destruction/devastation of homes and the surrounding environments.

Agricultural Community Events Farmers’ Markets - Agricultural Community Farmers' Markets is dedicated to championing local agriculture. Our mission is to elevate local artisans, farmers and producers while supporting the diverse communities that embrace them.

Recology Sonoma Marin - The solid waste hauling company for Petaluma. The Recology mission represents a fundamental shift from traditional waste management to resource recovery. We seek to eliminate waste by developing and discovering sustainable resource recovery practices that can be implemented globally. Promoting increasing the use of recycle and compost to reduce garbage.

FEED Cooperative - FEED is a Petaluma-based farmer and worker-owned cooperative. All 35-member farms practice values of climate-smart practices, improving biodiversity and care for their bio-region through thoughtful water usage, integrative pest management, and clean, safe growing practices. We work with many certified organic and/or biodynamic farms and local businesses as food hubs.

Refill Mercantile - Refill Mercantile offers low-waste and refillable options to help our community reduce their single-use waste.

Reuse Alliance - Reuse Alliance prevents resources from becoming waste by advocating for and supporting reuse practices that recirculate materials in our communities. Through programs like the Repair Fair, the Reuse Awareness Campaign, Reuse Roundtables and the new Reuse Hub, we raise awareness and educate about the benefits of and resources for reuse.

Petaluma Farmers Market - We operate the farmers' markets in Petaluma at Lucchesi Park on Tuesdays year round and Walnut Park on Saturdays May 2nd - November 21st. Shopping locally lowers gas emissions. Supporting small to mid scale farms supports lowering green houses gases. There are many more impacts to shopping at the farmers' markets.

Sonoma Family Meal - Sonoma Family Meal sources fresh & local ingredients as often as possible in our food security & culinary job training programs. In 2024, we salvaged 30,000 pounds of top-tier local produce from going to waste!

Zero Waste Sonoma - Providing information on the different recycling programs in Sonoma County including resources (e.g. recycling guides, filter drainers etc.).

North Bay Electric Auto Association - The NBEAA is a chapter of the Electric Vehicle Association covering the North San Francisco Bay Area of California, focused on the counties of Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma. Our mission is to promote the adoption of electric vehicles for every driving lifestyle.

Petaluma Transit - Petaluma Transit offers 100% fare-free transportation, including fixed-route buses, paratransit for riders with mobility or cognitive challenges, and LumaGo on-demand service. By providing accessible, eco-friendly alternatives, we help reduce traffic congestion and emissions, making it easier to choose sustainable, car-free travel.

Redwood Bike Share - Redwood Bikeshare is a public bikeshare system providing first/last mile solutions to/from SMART stations and around Town. We operate 300 ebikes in 7 cities from Santa Rosa to Larkspur along the SMART line, so come take a ride!

Rising Sun Center for Opportunity - Rising Sun provides no-cost residential energy and water efficiency installations through our Climate Careers Green House Call program. We train our youth to lead the appointment by installing the devices. From Mary Collins School at Cherry Valley:

  • Keoni Yu’s 7th and 8th grade science class: Students will identify areas for improvement on campus regarding consumption, implement and measure the impact of their solutions, and present their findings through written reports and creative presentations.

  • Lisa Reid’s 4th and 5th grade class: Students connected with pen pals in Mexico to study migrating birds, leading them to research the harmful effects of pesticides and create educational projects to raise awareness and inspire safer environmental practices.

  • Kerry Santia’s 4th and 5th grade science class: Students will design critter crossing models and create stop-motion videos to raise awareness about the challenges newts and other animals face during migration in human-developed areas.

  • Trinity Pelkofer’s 4th and 5th grade environmental education class: After an in depth study of the California Newt and its challenging habitat conditions in the Chileno Valley Rd./Laguna Lake area, students will design and share engineering solutions for this local challenge.

  • Mike Watt’s 6th grade science class: Sixth grade students created PSAs for the Friends of the Petaluma River contest and will design and build model seed dispersal devices.

From McNear Elementary School:

  • Kirsten Franklin’s 3rd-6th grade classes: After a great horned owl was injured by a rat trap on campus, students are exploring humane ways to address the rat problem without harming other wildlife.

  • Lisa Parelius’s 3rd and 5th grade classes: Students are exploring and identifying the different types of trees on our campus.

From Kenilworth Junior High School:

  • Kate Rennie’s 7th grade science class: Students are creating and analyzing model ice cores to understand carbon dioxide data and share their findings about climate evidence with the public.

From Casa Grande High School:

  • Dan Hubacker’s Junior and Senior classes: Students lead a unique, student-run rescue rearing program to support the recovery of Petaluma Steelhead trout through research and hands-on action addressing climate-related challenges.

From McDowell Elementary School:

  • Renee Nealon’s 4th grade class: Students engaged in a year-long Environmental Pathways project, exploring ecosystems, observing seasonal changes, and contributing to wetland restoration to learn how to care for and protect the environment.

Grant Elementary School:

  • Wendy Funk’s 4th grade science class: Fourth graders at Grant are partnering with the Chileno Valley Newt Brigade to raise awareness and propose solutions—like student-designed critter crossings and educational campaigns—to reduce newt deaths on Chileno Valley Road and help protect the species from endangerment.
