Cool Business: Improve Buildings

Did you know that nearly 40 percent of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions originate from the building sector?

About 70% of that comes from the energy used for daily building operations. The remaining 30% comes from the mining, manufacture, transport, installation, and maintenance of materials used in building construction. This is called upfront or embodied carbon.

When thinking about opportunities to reduce our building’s emissions for our businesses:

  • How can we improve our building’s energy efficiency?

  • How can we transition appliances and equipment from gas to electric?

  • How can we use clean and renewable electricity?

  • How can we reduce the impact of construction materials?
